Saxophone — James Rae says the pursuit of jazz, as with other areas of music, begins with the building blocks - scales and arpeggios. Jazz Scale Studies walks us through the different scales that will become the basis for jazz improvisation, from Major and Dorian through Blues, Chromatic, and Diminished. Each scale is presented in keys that Rae refers to as “comfortable, user-friendly”, and is followed by two studies demonstrating the skills learned from the lesson. Separate books are available for flute, clarinet, and saxophone studies.
