Description
Clarinet in Bb, Piano — Ellen Zwilich’s CLARINET CONCERTO is lusciously scored for chamber orchestra, rich with fresh textures and dazzling passagework in close dialogue with the soloist. Marc Peloquin’s expertly crafted piano reduction provides a practical and rewarding accompaniment, ideal for competitions and recitals.Movement I is frenetic and cosmopolitan, while Movement II unfolds as a tragic elegy remebering the 9/11 disaster, which occurred only a few miles from Zwilich’s studio as she was composing the work. Rather than following a traditional three-movement concerto form, the 28-minute work adopts a Fast–Slow–Fast–Slow structure, culminating in a dramatic return to the elegy material, transforming the virtuosic showcase into a powerful memorial.
