Flute, Alto Flute, Piccolo, Viola, Harp — Subtitled A Serenade of songs without words, Hodkinson's first set of Papillons was, he says, intended as a companion piece to the famous Debussy Sonate for the same forces. Expect no comparisions of the two works, however, as this set of seven "character-trio bagatelles" is purely Hodkinson's own. Completed in 1984, Papillons, Book I went on to garner second prize in the 1984 international composition contest sponsored by The American Harp Society. For advanced performers.
