Clarinet in Bb — Scurry: …agitation, bustle… to go with light running steps… to scamper or swirl about… to cause to act rapidly; a short run or race: these were the images in my mind following a request for a solo work from a Deland, Florida university colleague.xa0 While the resultant ‘intermezzo’ is brief — basically a long crescendo (loudening) and ascent — it makes considerable demands on the dexterity and stamina of the soloist, both qualities that my colleague possesses in abundance.Scurry is approximately four minutes in duration.xa0 A grateful composer acknowledges the financial assistance from the School of Music of Stetson University, James Woodward, Dean.xa0 The score is dedicated to Dr. Lynn Musco and was completed on a windy May 20, 2005, in Ormond-by-the-Sea, Florida.
