Description
Flute 1, Flute 2, Oboe 1, Oboe 2, Clarinet in Bb 1, Clarinet in Bb 2, Bassoon 1, Bassoon 2, Horn in F 1, Horn in F 2, Trumpet in Bb 1, Trumpet in Bb 2, Trombone 1, Trombone 2, Tuba, Percussion, Timpani, Violin 2, Viola, Violoncello, Contrabass — Pachelbel’s Christmas was originally composed as a canon and quodlibet for the Seacoast Brass Quintet. The orchestration was created later to provide more contrasting color and texture, highlighting the 41 favorite Christmas melodies heard over the familiar Pachelbel themes. Perfect for your Holiday Pops concerts, PACHELBEL’S CHRISTMAS begins tamely, and gradually introduces seasonal melodies in the winds over Pachelbel’s canon in the strings. The pacing accelerates into a dazzling quodlibet featuring 41 tunes ranging from carols to Handel to wintry favorites. The composer hasn’t listed the 41 melodies, so you can invite the musicians and audience to a musical scavenger hunt! Every orchestral part “has the melody” at all times! PACHELBEL’S CHRISTMAS is equally appropriate for school, community, and professional orchestras.
