Alto Clarinet 1, Basset Horn 1, Bass Clarinet 1, Alto Clarinet 2, Basset Horn 2, Bass Clarinet 2, Bass Clarinet 3, Bass Clarinet 4, Bass Clarinet 5, Bass Clarinet 6, Contrabass Clarinet 1, Contra-alto Clarinet 1, Contrabass Clarinet 2, Contra-alto Clarinet 2 — Janáček composed this famous fanfare for antiphonal brass choirs and timpani to herald an outdoor gymnastics festival. Full of open fifth “power chords” in the low parts, Dorff’s exhilarating transcription is scored for Alto Clarinet, 6 Bass Clarinets, and 2 Contrabass Clarinets, with optional parts for Basset Horns and Contralto Clarinets. Effective with one player per part, the arrangement is even more exuberant with larger ensembles. Also available separately for Clarinet Choir of 7 B-flat Clarinets and 2 Bass Clarinets.
