Description
Trumpet, Piano — BRAZILIAN SUNSHINE was written for my friend, trumpeter Nairam Simoes, who commissioned the work as an “In Memoriam” to the great Brazilian trombonist, Radegundis Feitosa Nunes, who was tragically killed in a car crash. Radegundis was a dear friend of Nairam’s, and I also had the pleasure of having Radegundis in my Music Theory classes at Juilliard. He was a fantastic musician, and a wonderful friend, who was always cheerful and full of life and energy! The work I wrote is influenced by the folk music of Brazil with its distinctive playful rhythms, and catchy melodies. I also wanted to convey the liveliness and energy of Radegundis, memorializing him and his wonderful zest for life. Radegundis’ spirit and energy lives on, gracing all of us who knew him with his joy, friendliness, and heart-felt caring spirit. The title says it all! Composed in memory of a Brazilian friend with a radiant personality, Ewazen’s BRAZILIAN SUNSHINE is a 3½-minute burst of lyrical joy, cruising in a samba-influenced groove. This warm and perky dance comes with parts for both C and Bb Trumpet, and is ideal for student recitals and competitions.
