Description

Voice, Percussion 1, Percussion 2, Percussion 3, Percussion 4, Piano — The four drums should be placed in a row in full view of the pianist. The teachers should assign the drum parts flexible among the children in the class and not "fix" a child in any one part. The game becomes significant for a child's development when, after mastering one part, he progresses to another. The overall experience is built up as each successive drum part is mastered and integrated with the others; its structure is maintained by the teacher's playing and direction. Those children not playing the drums should sing the song each time it is repeated. When the children understand the game and have become secure in their rhythmic proficiency, the pianist may make the game more challenging and enjoyable by playing his part with a great deal of inventive freedom.he can play the music of each drum section with marked and expressive variations of acceleradni, retardandi, crescendi, and diminuendi, and can sharpen the contrasts between the drum sections themselves by making abrupt and unpredictable changes in tempo and dynamics. These changes will heighten the attentiveness and test out the control of the drummers as they adapt their drumming to the music.
