Flute 1, Flute 2, Oboe 1, Oboe 2, Clarinet in Bb 1, Clarinet in Bb 2, Bassoon 1, Bassoon 2, Horn in F 1, Horn in F 2, Trumpet in C 1, Trumpet in C 2, Trombone 1, Trombone 2, Trombone 3, Timpani, Violin 1, Violin 2, Viola, Violoncello, Double Bass — Emilie Mayer (1812-1183) was one of the very first female composers to make a profession of her proclivity for creative work - she saw herself primarily as a composer. She was a student of the German composer Carl Loewe. She primarily composed instrumental music. From the mid-1840s to the mid 1850s she mainly wrote works in the prestigious orchestral genres (symphonies and overtures) and the most demanding genre of chamber music, the string quartet. The “Ouvertüre No. 3” was likely composed around 1850 or earlier, and revised later on. It consists of two sections, an Adagio and an Allegro vivace.
