Description
A freeform fantasy based on scenes in E.E. Cummings's "The Enormous Room," the story of Cummings's service as an ambulance driver in the First World War, and his time spent in a French prison (he had been arrested in error). Two passages from the novel are illustrated in the music: the first, describing a snowfall observed from the prison, which opens Diamond's work; the second from the end of the novel, where Cummings writes: "Things new and curious and hard and strange and vibrant and immense, lifting with a great ondulous stride firmly into immortal sunlight..."
