Janitzio

Description

Janitzio was inspired by a visit Revueltas made to Lake PatzCuaro in Michoacan. The themes in the work, according to Oscar Mayer-Serra, are siimilar to the traditional melodies of the region. Revueltas's note is striking in its irony: "Janitzio is an island of fishermen gently rocked by the lake of Patzuaro. The lake of Patzcuaro is ugly. Romantic and sentimental trvelers have embellished it with postard kisses and music. Not to be left out, I have made my own small contribution, in an infinite yearning for fame and renown. Posterity will no doubt be thankful for these efforts on behalf of tourism."
