Description
Piano — The fourth supplementary volume of the New Liszt Edition contains earlier, more technically challenging versions of the Transcendental Etudes (Vingt-quatre [douze] grandes études), the textual variants of some études, and an album leaf in F-sharp major entitled 'Preludio' which can be considered as the thirteenth study that Liszt planned for the series but did not realize. In addition, the volume contains an étude originally written for a piano method edited by François-Joseph Fétis and Ignaz Moscheles, an unfinished draft, a puzzling album leaf - the so-called 'Prélude omnitonique' - and some other similar album leaves. The album leaf 'Preludio' is published here for the first time. The version of the Grandes études published here is a revised version made for the publisher Schlesinger shortly after the series composed in around 1826 had been revised and published in 1838/1839. This Schlesinger version is here republished for the first time. The volume includes a detailed preface in German, English, and Hungarian, including new research findings and manuscript facsimiles, as well as critical notes in English. Along with the cloth-bound edition, a practical paperback version has also been published, the contents of which are identical, but for the omission of the critical notes.
