This engaging composition makes for a memorable and exciting addition to any concert, sure to captivate both performers and audience alike. All longer notes tied over to an eighth note should be played with a hard release on the eighth note.In this piece, the staccatos should be very short. Consider using a “dat” articulation.Make sure that the trombone players bring out the glissandos. In mm. 38-39 and mm. 80-81, hit the half-note accents very aggressively upfront, as if a bell is being hit.In mm. 50-65, make sure the hi-hat and triangle parts are heard, bringing out the metal sounds in the percussion section. In mm. 54-60, have the xylophone player really exaggerate the crescendo-decrescendo measures. In mm. 67-68, have the upper woodwinds and mallets start the crescendo as quietly as possible, get up to forte, and then fade back to almost nothing. The low reeds and brass in mm. 88-89 should be very strong! Don’t hesitate to use the clarinet cues here to bolster the sound. Haunted Revelry is a playful and eerie composition for developing bands, designed to evoke the fun atmosphere of mischievous ghosts in a haunted house. The piece features clapping from different sections of the band, expanding percussion instrumentation, and playful, spooky melodies. Performers are encouraged to use exaggerated dynamics and articulation, especially with staccatos and accented notes, to create an engaging and interactive performance. The piece is a delightful addition to any concert, combining spooky atmosphere with lively energy for both performers and the audience.
