The cave houses are a complex of whitewashed structures that are dug into the side of a hill. These cave houses provided safety for their inhabitants, and also helped deal with the extreme Andalusian sun and the winter rains. Today, the caves are an ethnographic museum, and a must-visit for any tourist going to Granada. The composer quickly captures the sound of Spanish music. An introductory melody starts at m. 6 and establishes the two main themes. The A-section begins at m. 18 with the upper woodwinds and trumpets playing at a fast tempo. Measure 36 introduces the B-section with the low brass and low woodwinds carrying the melody. Measure 49 is a return to the A-section material, but this time the tune is varied for added interest. A long coda starts at m. 57, and the tempo continues to get faster and faster until the final closing chords. The Caves of Sacromonte are located in Granada, Spain.
