Description
Flute, Oboe, Bassoon, Clarinet in Bb 1, Clarinet in Bb 2, Bass Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Saxophone, Trumpet in Bb 1, Trumpet in Bb 2, Horn in F, Trombone, Euphonium, Bb Euphonium, Tuba, Mallet Percussion, Bells, Timpani, Percussion 1, Snare Drum, Bass Drum, Percussion 2, Crash Cymbals, Suspended Cymbal, Triangle — The opening fanfare figure should be played in a dignified and regal manner with close attention to tempo and articulations. This gives way to a broader and more legato section at m. 9, which then returns to the opening theme at m. 17. The fanfare returns at m. 41, moving to another chorale at m. 56, and finally returning to the opening theme once again at m. 92. The elegance of a British March should always be present. This regal fanfare captures the elegant dignity of the traditional British Regal march. A stately fanfare is contrasted against a broad, legato melody that leads to a chorale before returning to the original theme. A grand and majestic selection for concert or contest!
