Description

Flute, Oboe, Clarinet in Bb 1, Clarinet in Bb 2, Bassoon, Trumpet in Bb 1, Trumpet in Bb 2, Horn in F, Trombone, Tuba, Mallet Percussion, Timpani, Percussion, Violin 1, Violin 2, Violin 3, Viola, Violoncello, Contrabass — Begin The Sorcerer's Apprentice in a quiet and mysterious manner. At m. 16, the dramatic statement breaks the spell. Maintain a steady tempo from the allegro until two measures before the end. It is important to work for a full dynamic range in the orchestra from the piano in the bassoon solo at m. 23 to the vigorous brass statement of the melody at m. 59. After the grand pause in m. 106, the piece has a sudden and surprising ending.Performance Time: 1:15String editing by Amy Rosen. The only selection to be featured in the original "Fantasia" film and sixty years later in "Fantasia 2000!" is arranged here in a version your students can play. Playable by string orchestra or full orchestra, this arrangement avoids much of the introductory material to get right into the most familiar parts. An orchestra classic.
