Description
Violin 1, Violin 2, Violin 3, Viola, Cello, Contrabass, Piano — The sound of the West as portrayed in Sundance has two distinct sections — the chorale settings (the opening) and at m. 50, both of which should be played broadly and expressively. Conductor interpretation as to ritards, etc.are encouraged. The contrasting livelier sections at mm. 16 and 65dominate Sundance and should be played with all the energy and enthusiasm of a “foot-stompin’”barn dance. Attention to dynamics and articulations are, as always, critical to the success of any performance piece. Opening with a gospel style tune, Sundance launches into a barn dance hoedown; truly a blast for your students to play. The feel-good enthusiasm of this piece will help your students win over contest and festival judges every time!
