Violin 1, Violin 2, Violin 3, Viola, Cello, Contrabass, Piano — Written by Anthony Showalter in 1877 with lyrics by Showalter and Elisha Hoffman, and inspired by a passage in Deuteronomy, this very popular hymn has been used in a number of films including The Human Comedy (1943), The Night of the Hunter (1955) and most recently True Grit (2010). This hymn tune has been used in movies and television, most notably in the soundtrack of the film True Grit.
