Soprano Saxophone, Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Saxophone — Paradigm Lost (2005) is in one continuous movement andexplores the contrast between quiet, delicate, recessive music, and moreaggressive takes on what, down deep, is similar material. The attemptsto resolve these different takes, or the failure to resolve them, are atthe heart of the piece. As the music progresses, the quartet divides intovarious duo and solo/trio combinations in which the recurring thematicmaterials are heard in changing contexts.Paradigm Lost is dedicated with enthusiasm and respect to thePrism Quartet.
