Violin 1, Violin 2, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Harp, Percussion — Snowshoes is a musical poem portraying a winter trek up a mountain over deep drifted snow and dense evergreen forest to a bright summit vista. Students encounter lyrical melodies, a variety of articulations, dynamic swells, and moments of alternating 3/4 and 4/4 meter. Features include second violins and violas sharing the opening theme, cellos opening with an approachable guitar-like strum pattern, and a first violin solo with fiddle-style droned open strings. The optional percussion and harp/piano parts add an exciting cinematic fullness to the sound. Take a journey with Snowshoes!
