Violin 1, Violin 2, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Piano — Open String Swing is a great opportunity for beginning students to perform jazz. Every part is played only on open strings throughout the entire piece and rhythms are homophonic throughout as well. The strings are scored in three parts: Violin 1, Violin 2/Viola, and Cello/Bass. This provides consistency between parts and strength in numbers. The piano is crucial as it supplies harmony not found in the string parts as well as keeping the tempo/rhythm driving forward.
