To accomplish this, I used a melody that is very rhythmic in nature and harmonies that include additional color notes in the upper extensions. There are also two special notes that are used frequently in this work: the added major 9th to give the chords their primary color (the real “unease” in this piece), and the flat 5th found in the repeated descending motif that complements the first special note as a melodic “blues” note. A short work for wind ensemble, Unease is all about creating a sense of disquiet and tension. Players and audiences alike will be on the edge of their seats. The rhymic melody and use of dynamics make this a bold and exciting piece for students to play. Well-scored and masterfully arranged, this piece is perfect for adding interest and intrigue to your ensemble's next concert program.
