The opening is based on an original tune, but at the trio The Man on the Flying Trapeze is presented in 2 time, rather than the original 3 to work as a march . If you have a talented snare-drum player allow them to ad lib . on the trio roll, as they depict an aerialist or trapeze artist soaring precariously above the audience .This piece was conceived as a tribute to my friend and former roommate Carl Bly on his induction into the Virginia Band Director’s Hall of Fame . Carl loves all things circus . This new march from composer James Meredith is traditional in style and is based on the famous circus tune "The Man on the Flying Trapeze." It is a challenging march that can stand with the marches of Sousa and Fillmore in its quality and is fun for the band and audience. The march ends with the circus "tah, dah" that the circus bands use to signal the end of the act and to encourage the audience to applause. We know your audiences will enjoy this piece.
