One of the first early experiences of mine is losing a sister. I lost my sister to SIDS, or sudden infant death syndrome. I only knew her for fourteen days, and I do not remember much, since I was four years old at the time of her living and passing. This piece is meant to be played slowly. Pay attention to the dynamics carefully crafted in this piece of music. The last fourteen measures are a depiction of the impending doom, with the timpani portraying the heartbeat. Ultimately, the heartbeat gives way to death and the last chord as the rise to heaven. When Hope Falls Silent is a deeply emotional piece inspired by the composer’s personal experience of loss. Written with a slow, somber pace, the music reflects the quiet sorrow of a life cut short. The final section, marked by the timpani's heartbeat-like rhythms, gradually fades into silence, symbolizing the inevitable passage of time and the rise to a peaceful resolution.
