Colossus

Description

Violin 1, Violin 2, Viola, Cello, Contrabass, Piano — As the title implies, this piece is intended to sound huge, even though it is written for the youngest of students. The piece is set in a fanfare style with strong open intervals, but the technical demands have been limited for the beginning players. Some tension chords with dissonant notes are used to add to the drama of the piece. It is always my intention to write music for the young players that is within their grasp technically, but still is sophisticated musically. After the fanfare-like Atheme, the B theme should be in a contrasting legato style. All accented notes should be played with more length, weight and emphasis rather than playing them harder and shorter.It has been my pleasure to have the opportunity to write this piece.
