Many of these films are enjoyed while we are wrapped in warm blankets with hot cocoa in our hands. They are considered comfort food for the soul and often touch on something relatable for many viewers. This piece captures the uplifting energy found in these holiday classics. A fun cross-curricular activity for students would be to craft their own script using common elements found in holiday filmsThe piece starts with a light, energetic motif that returns throughout the piece. The conductor should encourage students to perform the two main themes as full four-measure phrases. Students should work for a warm, relaxed sound starting in m. 27 as new melodic material is introduced. Low brass players have moments to shine in mm. 25–26 and mm. 45–48. Percussion have a featured break from mm. 43–44 and provide a nice transition to the next section with a return of the main melodic material. Percussion instruments help set the winter mood and should be played with confidence. Chimes reflect ringing church bells in the distance. Sleigh bells portray images of horse drawn sleighs in the snow. Suspended cymbal rolls represent the icy winter winds.I hope you and your students enjoy Winter Adventure!
