Bursting with life and vitality from the first note to the final measure, Energico commands attention as each section of the band adds layers of excitement and anticipation. The piece’s tempo and spirited motifs challenge performers to channel their boundless energy, infusing every note with passion and verve. Yet, as the music races towards its climax, a moment of respite emerges in the last measure—a collective exhale, a release of energy that leaves both musicians and audience exhilarated, fulfilled, and eagerly anticipating the next performance. The “exhale” in the final measure should be very noticeable to the audience. Energico is one of my favorite pieces that I’ve ever written. I hope you and your students enjoy this electric work!
