Neverland

Description

Violin 1, Violin 2, Violin 3, Viola, Cello, Contrabass, Piano — Opening in G major, Neverland is a work for string orchestra characterizing that land of make-believe where no one grows up. Playful and spirited in nature, the opening theme is highlighted in the upper strings. The middle section moves to E minor, where the cellos and basses get their turn with the melodic theme. Neverland then returns to the G-major opening theme, concluding with a dynamic finale. The ensemble should be aware of all articulations when performing this piece. This piece by composer Bill Calhoun will ignite the imagination with its youthful effervescence. You will hear hints of discord while the children play, but for the most part the piece is pure childhood happiness.
