Description
Violin 1, Violin 2, Violin 3, Viola, Cello, Contrabass, Piano — Shepherd's Hey is a tune made famous by Australian composer Percy Aldrich Grainger (July 8, 1882 — February 20, 1961) and is an example of a melody suitable for use as a English Morris Dance. The Morris Dance is a festive dance featuring choreographed dancing by groups of people with bell pads on their shins. They will sometimes wield swords, sticks, or handkerchiefs as they move about. This arrangement is for young players introducing them to the music of Grainger while providing them with a delightful educational experience. Good music performed well inspires the imagination. If your students work out the notes, rhythms and tempos, they will capture the spirit of the original work. Violinist and educator James Meredith provides a delightful setting of the ever-popular English folk song, Shepherd's Hey. Note the clever addition of a quote from Country Gardens in the middle. Excellent teaching material for developing string players.
