Violin 1, Violin 2, Viola, Cello, Contrabass, Piano — Written in AAB form,xa0Sunburst provides all sections of the string orchestra with lyrical melodies and opportunities to shine. The opening 'A' melody at m. 9 is a question and answer between Violin I and Violin II/Viola. The second 'A' melody at m. 17 adds Cello as the answering melody to the harmonized Violin and Viola question. The melodies encourage a warm, singing tone. There are build-ups at mm. 25 and 45 that require cohesive ensemble playing at a soft dynamic and tone control throughout the crescendos.The joyous 'B' melody at m. 29 allows Violin I to sing, supported solidly by the other sections of the group. The dynamic shift and slight tempo change at m. 34 is a gentle gesture, setting up the return to the 'A' melody at m. 37. A slightxa0ritardando for dramatic purposes at m. 50 prepares the return to a more lush treatment of the 'B' melody at m. 55.
