Pigs and Fishes

Clarinet in Bb, Bassoon, Percussion, Piano, Violin, Viola, Violoncello — “Pigs & Fishes” is the third work in Martin Bresnick’s 12 Opere della Musica Povera - or "Works of a Poor Music". Each Opera is in a different key and has a title that evokes a sense of poverty: poverty of means, of spirit, of wit. Pigs & Fishes, cited in the 61st hexagram of the I Ching, are considered animals of great intractability. This version for clarinet, bassoon, vibraphone, piano, violin, viola, and cello was created with great pleasure especially for Amelia Friedman and the Nash Ensemble.
