Flute 1, Piccolo, Flute 2, Oboe, Clarinet in Bb 1, Clarinet in Bb 2, Clarinet in Bb 3, Alto Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Bassoon, Alto Saxophone 1, Alto Saxophone 2, Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Saxophone, Trumpet in Bb 1, Trumpet in Bb 2, Trumpet in Bb 3, Horn in F 1, Horn in F 2, Tenor 1, Tenor 2, Euphonium, Tuba, Bells, Xylophone, Timpani, Snare Drum, Bass Drum, Triangle, Suspended Cymbal — Inspired by the Slavonic Dances of Czech master Antonín Dvořák, Joseph Compello has written his own Furiant, a Bohemian dance, usually in triple meter with frequently shifting accents. This dazzling little original piece makes much of the contrast between 6/8 and 3/4. This variety of rhythmic pulse gives the piece tremendous energy and momentum. Slavic Scherzo is a selection that will energize the band and delight the audience in equal measure.
