Turn it a bit and there is a shift of perspective that compels us to explore more possibilities. This music takes us back to simple times and the simple toys that first captured our imaginations. The basic harmonies (there are no accidentals!) are a reminder that, as children, the backgrounds of our lives were still largely unexplored, leaving us free to invent our own realities. Without harmonic complexities, rhythm, shape, and color are brought to the fore, and the liveliness of youth is a constant presence. This is for children everywhere, for the fun they bring into our lives and the fun we can give back to them! Kaleidoscope captures the wonder of childhood curiosity through simple harmonies and vibrant rhythms, inspired by the shifting patterns and colors seen through a kaleidoscope. The piece encourages creativity and explores the joyful, imaginative spirit of youth, inviting students to focus on rhythm, shape, and color rather than harmonic complexity.
