Description

Soprano 1, Soprano 2, Alto, Piano — Growing up is a period marked by profound transformation and vulnerability. Adolescents often find themselves caught between the innocence of childhood and the responsibilities of adulthood, facing an array of emotional, social, and physical changes. It's a time when the mirror becomes a powerful symbol—one that reflects not only our outward appearance but also our inner struggles, hopes, and fears.I felt compelled to write ”Looking Glass" because young adulthood is a uniquely challenging time. Like Alice stepping through the mirror into Wonderland, young people embark on a journey full of unknowns and self-discovery. I wanted to create a piece that reflects the bravery it takes to face these changes head-on.Just as Alice learns to embrace her true identity amidst the wonders and chaos of Wonderland, this piece encourages young singers to look at themselves in the mirror and find the bravery to navigate their own transformations. Through repeated melodic patterns that shift unexpectedly and empowering lyrics, I hope to inspire treble choirs to celebrate their resilience and embrace the exciting journey to adulthood.--Ashley Dame Just as Alice learns to embrace her true identity amidst the wonders and chaos of Wonderland, this piece encourages young singers to look at themselves in the mirror and find the bravery to navigate their own transformations.
