Known widely as "Palestrina," the name of his home town, he was a prolific composer of sacred Motets and Masses. Alma Redemptoris Mater is a motet devoted to the Virgin Mary.Stylistically, there are usually no dynamics in Palestrina's work, rather, crescendos occur as the music rises and diminuendos as it falls, giving the piece an ebb and flow.
