Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass, Piano — The text was inspired by II Corinthians 5:17 - The composer addresses the yearning to be rid of that thing that causes the most pain and heartbreak in one's life. The text was written years earlier and the composer decided to write a melody to accompany the text. This proved to be quite a challenge. The melodic line creates a word painting to reemphasize the text. The harmonies were later added. Though the text may appear to be somewhat malevolent, in all actuality, it is the opposite, offering hope and assurance from above. This powerful work for mixed choir draws inspiration from II Corinthians 5:17, exploring the deep yearning to be free from the burdens that cause the greatest pain and heartbreak in life. Dedicated to the Soldiers’ Chorus of the United States Army Field Band, the piece combines poignant original text with a stirring incorporation of “O God, Our Help in Ages Past.” The result is a moving and reflective composition that captures both the struggle for renewal and the comfort of faith. Rich harmonies and expressive choral writing make this a profound addition to any concert or sacred setting, offering singers and audiences alike a message of hope and resilience.
