Best known as a children's "skipping song," the lyrics are often adapted to suit the location in which it is being sung. For example, there are versions of the lyrics in which the Belle comes from Brisbane City, London City, Dublin City and the Golden City (the latter refers to Edinburgh, Scotland).The optional violin part and hand claps will add a great deal of style and energy to the performance of this piece. However, performing it with piano only is sufficient.
