Description
Violin 1, Violin 2, Violin 3, Viola, Cello, Contrabass — Pachelbel’s Canon in D has become a staple in western music, especially when it comes to weddings. It’s a wonderful piece of music with exciting melodies that grow throughout the work. However, there is one major problem with this piece from the perspective of cello and bass players. Their part only contains a pattern of eight notes that are repeated over and over and over: twenty-eight times to be exact. To remedy this, composer Katie O’Hara LaBrie has created Pachelbel’s Rhapsody, a dream-like variation on Pachelbel’s original themes which allows for all parts of the orchestra to shine. Finally, an interpretation of Pachelbel's famous Canon in D with more than 8 notes for the cello and bass sections! Pachelbel’s Rhapsody creatively reimagines this well-known melody so that all voices get a chance to explore new, dream-like melodies that float around Pachelbel's original harmonic foundation. With independent lines, shifting opportunities in cello and first violin, and unique rhythmic motives, this piece will help strengthen your developing players and lets every section shine.
