Description
Violin 1, Violin 2, Violin 3, Viola, Violoncello, Contrabass, Piano — This composition was inspired by a story of a father and son that fought in the American Civil War . My original version for full symphony orchestra had lyrics that tells the story of a father fighting for the North and his son fighting for the South . In the story, the father and son both die in the same battle fighting for the opposite sides . The mother and daughter are waiting for their return and have prepared food for them . Alas, they will never return .It is a melancholy, sentimental melody with a cheerful up-tempo section representing the mother's and daughter’s memories of the happy times together . Gregory Singer brings us a descriptive work inspired by the story of a father and son who fought on different sides in the America Civil War. The composition begins with a tender melancholic ballad that leads to a cheerful fiddle tune. The piece is brought to a dynamic conclusion when the themes are stated in counterpoint.
