A charming waltz sprinkled with occasional, delightful chromatic harmonies, the piece lends itself well to performance at any time of year. However, the addition of sleigh bells and wind chimes lend it a wintry flavor and conjure images of snowflakes dancing lightly on the breeze. Taken from Amy Beach's "Children's Album, Op. 36" for piano, Minuet is one of five character pieces featuring simple and charming melodies for young musicians. In keeping with the music-box like quality of the original treble clef melody and harmony, this cheerful theme has been reimagined for concert band with the addition of percussion such as sleigh bells and wind chimes to lend it a wintry flavor and conjure images of snowflakes dancing lightly on the breeze.
