This recognizable tune begins with a march-like introduction, followed by an antiphonal statement of the main theme. The final melodic cadence is then taken up by the low brass moving to the trumpets and middle voices, then finally to the upper woodwinds and bells as the piece transitions to an original middle section. This variation then buildsinto a slower and dramatic chorale-like setting of Chester. The full orchestration of this section moves into a return of the opening march feel to end the piece. The famous song by William Billings from the American Revolution has been the basis of many settings. In this new arrangement by Bill Calhoun, beginning students get to mix march-like rhythms with a lush and full chorale setting of the song. Perfect to showcase your beginners at any festival or as a patriotic favorite.
