Owing to the familiarity of Up on the Housetop, the eight-note rhythm in the tune will provide an opportunity to introduce eighth notes to students. The snare drum part includes eighth notes in varying patterns. The arrangement will be useful to directors who plan to give a beginning band performance at or near the winter holidays. The six notes needed for a performance are Bb scale-wise up to G. They are found in every beginning band method. The grade level is slightly above 1/2. Clarinets are, of course, below the break. All instruments will have an opportunity to play the melody to Up on the Housetop except for oboe, tenor saxophone, and horn due to range limitations at the beginning level. Regarding the continuous sleigh bells part, young players may not be able to play the part steadily from beginning to end. If so, the director may wish to have other players share the part at suitable intervals. Thank you for choosing this composition.
