The piece calls for musicians to scream and clap as moments leading to the thrilling end depict an encounter with a snake in the valley (represented by a ratchet).A hard-acrylic mallet is preferred for the glockenspiel in this work. Additionally, the sleighbells or tambourine may be used interchangeably.
