Every day we go outside, we see lizards hanging on our fence and house. We stare at the lizards, and they gaze back at us like they rule the backyard. These lizards are the true kings of our yard. The music is set in concert Bb and 4/4 time signature. I have written easily accessible percussion parts, and most wind parts are set for seven to eight notes in the instruments' ranges. There are opportunities for dynamics and articulations for your young students. Inspired by the composer's son's fascination with lizards, this beginning band piece uses at most eight notes in each instrument's range, perfect to end the first year of instruction. Featuring many opportunities for dynamics and articulation development, this composition will help develop those essential skills. With plenty of percussion parts to keep players interested and every section playing the melody, this piece is sure to become a student favorite!
