This piece aims for your students to explore their new notes and take on the music that is written before them. So go on this short adventure as the lion tries to find his home in the forest. Set in Concert Bb and 4/4 time signature, this piece utilizes beginning band concepts. Most instruments play within a 5 to 8 note range so your wind players can have success. I also wrote several percussion parts that you may substitute with other instruments depending on your situation. Make sure the students play all note durations to the rest or next note. There are multiple opportunities for expression with simple dynamic changes and shapings below the line. Utilizing concepts that beginning band students need to master, this composition about a young lion’s conquest of his territory is a great concert or contest selection.
