Description

Cello — If you ever played the cello before, you know what a joy it is to participate actively in making music. That is exactlywhat this book is about. We have designed the book to include a wide variety of songs in many different styles, withthe main idea being to have fun making music. Additionally, I Used To Play Cello contains many exercises for theadult musician to re-learn skills that may have been learned many years ago. It begins with a review of importantmusical terms and music theory followed by exercises and pieces that re-introduce the string player to using theinstrument and the bow. The techniques covered are basic to playing easy orchestral and chamber music. The piecescover a broad range of styles and are generally familiar to most people who have been involved in listening to musicthrough the yearsPractice some of the technical exercises beginning on p. 6. Then turn to one of the pieces you would like to play andtry reading it. If the piece you have selected has a technique that you are not sure of, try to find that technique in theopening pages of the book and practice it as an exercise. You can also listen to the piece on the audio file and playalong with the track that is played by a cello and piano and, in some cases, other accompaniment instruments. Whenyou become sure of yourself, you can try playing with the accompaniment track without the melody.I Used To Play Cello is not a beginner’s book. If you are new to playing an instrument, we suggest that you obtaina beginner’s book and a teacher. After you have mastered the basics, you can then come back to the material in thisbook.Remember to have fun and enjoy making music! I Used to Play is a new series for adults looking to get back into playing their instruments of yesteryear, and will help jumpstart their memory and comfort with music. Its #1 goal is to get people re-acquainted with their instrument(s) by not only reviewing theory and technique with etudes, but also providing them with types of music they want to play, like pop, jazz, and classical tunes. Each book contains downloadable audio MP3 files of complete performances of most songs, plus accompaniment-only play-along versions. Also downloadable are printable PDFs of piano parts for practice or performance opportunities. It's just the push former players need to fall back in love with their instruments again!
