The techniques covered are basic to playing easy orchestral and chamber music. The piecescover a broad range of styles and are generally familiar to most people who have been involved in listening to musicthrough the yearsPractice some of the technical exercises beginning on p. 6. Then turn to one of the pieces you would like to play andtry reading it. If the piece you have selected has a technique that you are not sure of, try to find that technique in theopening pages of the book and practice it as an exercise. You can also listen to the piece on the audio file and playalong with the track that is played by a cello and piano and, in some cases, other accompaniment instruments. Whenyou become sure of yourself, you can try playing with the accompaniment track without the melody.I Used To Play Cello is not a beginner’s book. If you are new to playing an instrument, we suggest that you obtaina beginner’s book and a teacher. After you have mastered the basics, you can then come back to the material in thisbook.Remember to have fun and enjoy making music!
