Description
Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass, Piano — As a conductor I am always looking for new ideas in repertoire, especially something for the beginning of my concert, either the first or second piece. xa0Closing works are also desired and not easily found other than the staples in my library. As a composer, I tend to write what I need at times. This original concert work is wonderful for the beginning of a concert, a closing piece or even used as a "theme" for concerts. I was inspired by the well-known words of the O'Shawnessy poem and wrote original lyrics surrounding those wonderful, musical words we all love.Sprinkled with multi-meter of 3/4 and 4/4 time, the piano creates an energetic, pulsing feel underneath vocal lines of length and breadth creating dynamic phrasing that reflects and paints the text. A short bridge that punctuates with syncopation builds to a key change introducing a strong chorus with a final "We soar!" creating a final note of joy and power and beautiful vowel work. I try to make these moments happen naturally!Break the piece apart when learning. Find some phrases to create wonderful warm-ups and learning moments for your choir. Discuss the text and let your singers express their thoughts about it and how they "soar" because of music.I hope you'll find as much joy in learning, teaching and performing this work as I did in creating it for you.~Greg Gilpin This original concert work, with text inspired by Arthur O'Shawnessy, is suitable for the beginning of a concert, as a closing piece, or could even be used as a part of a larger theme for concerts. It is sprinkled with meter changes and a piano accompaniment that creates an energetic, pulsing feel underneath vocal lines of length and breadth, creating dynamic phrasing that reflect and paint the wonderful text. Also available for Two-Part Treble Voices (BL1296) and Three-Part Mixed Voices (BL1335).
