Mixolydian Gloria

Description

Tenor, Bass 1, Bass 2, Piano — I have composed this setting of the Gloria text using the mixolydian scale rather than a conventional major scale. The key signature suggests E-Flat major; however, upon careful inspection, you will notice that “ti”, the D-natural, has been lowered a half step to “te”, D-Flat, which is one of the distinguishing features of the Mixolydian scale.Be careful to observe all of the dynamics, especially as each part enters to give a sense of increasing excitement. Also, work as an ensemble to create and maintain the rhythmic energy of the piece.
