A brisk tempo, jaunty 7/8 meter, and fanfare-like brass passagesmake this work an ideal concert opener.A lively marcato style should be maintained throughout, except during thecontrasting 6/4 section, which should feature a more legato, sonorous feel. Whileoptional, the piccolo part adds sparkle and the tubular bells offer a dramatictouch.
