Four Pieces, Op. 37

Joseph Jongen (1873-1953) composed his FOUR PIECES, Op. 37, in 1914, a collection that reveals his emerging maturity and his mastery of late-Romantic color and form. Written for organ, the set consists of "Cantabile," "Improvisation-Caprice," "Pri�re," and "Choral," each exploring a distinct expressive and technical character. The "Cantabile" opens with lyrical warmth and flowing melodic grace; the "Improvisation-Caprice" contrasts with a free, spontaneous virtuosity and rhythmic sparkle; the "Pri�re" unfolds as an intimate, deeply expressive meditation; and the "Choral" concludes the set with grandeur and harmonic richness, evoking the noble sound of a cathedral organ.
